A herd of bison rest near some geysers in the Midway Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
Seeing bison in Yellowstone is like seeing cacti in Arizona. They’re everywhere in the park after a successful recovery from the verge of extinction at the time of the park’s opening and are a pretty misunderstood beast. While they have been known to charge people and hurl them through the air, they’re still pretty tolerant of all the nonsense that tourists do to them every day, such as posing for a picture with a bison right behind them. It’s just not smart, people.
