Lake Solitude in Grand Teton National Park
Clouds build over Lake Solitude in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.

Along the Paintbrush Canyon to Cascade Canyon Loop nearly at the half-way point is Lake Solitude. It’s one of the most popular backcountry destinations in Grand Teton National Park and many people even try to squeeze it into one lengthy day-hike. It’s definitely a peaceful environment and has some great spots to enjoy the view.

  1. William B Stoecker says:

In the nineteen eighties sometime I started up Cascade Canyon early in the morning, only to encounter a moose who had the crazy notion that he owned the trail. Being the kind and generous person that I am, I immediately went all the way back down, consulted my map, and then went up Paintbrush Canyon and over and down to Lake Solitude, and then down Cascade Canyon (fortunately, the moose had gone elsewhere). My camera malfunctioned and I lost all of my pictures…but not my experiences. Those I can never lose.
